Chains

  1. Shackled and fettered in chains
  2. Sacrificed body and brains
  3. Hooked up straight into my vein
  4. Labour gets sucked down the drain
  5. Only for capital gain
  6. Ignoring my illness and pain
  7. Begging and pleading in vain
  8. Silenced each time I complain
  9. Speak up considered profane
  10. Hours each day on the train
  11. Ever extinguishing flame
  12. My number is now my new name
  13. Whispers in secret start swayin’
  14. Conspirators also are sayin’
  15. All of us no longer playin’
  16. Time for the head to start payin’
  17. Together our voices outweighin’
  18. As long as we’re standin’ and stayin’
  19. Our message more strongly conveyin’
  20. Power and strength we’re displayin’
  21. This isn’t pretend we’re portrayin’
  22. No longer on us are they preyin’
  23. Instead, they are cowerin’, prayin’
  24. The shackles and fetters decayin’

By Kim Siever

I live in Lethbridge with my spouse and 5 of our 6 children. I’m a writer, focusing on social issues and the occasional poem. My politics are radically left. I recently finished writing a book debunking several capitalism myths. My newest book writing project is on the labour history of Lethbridge.

I’m also dichotomally Mormon. And I’m a functional vegetarian: I have a blog post about that somewhere around here. My pronouns are he/him.
