You\u2019ve probably heard conservatives talk about the economy, how important the economy is as an election issue, how important jobs are, or business investment is, or the GDP is.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
Except conservatives don\u2019t actually care about the economy.<\/p>\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n
If conservatives actually cared about the economy, they would be in favour of the one thing that would have the greatest impact on the economy: preventing billionaires from becoming billionaires.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
Billionaires are billionaires because they hoard billions of dollars in wealth. Just like millionaires are millionaires because they hoard millions of dollars in wealth.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
I\u2019ve made more than a million dollars over the course of my adult working life, but I\u2019ve spent most of it. Despite making over a million dollars, no one considers me a millionaire. I\u2019d have to not spend that money to be considered a millionaire.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
And any wealth that\u2019s hoarded is wealth that\u2019s not circulating in the economy. It\u2019s not creating jobs. It\u2019s not increasing sales. And, of course, it\u2019s not increasing government revenue, which, in turn, is money not spent on public services, such as health care, education, infrastructure, and emergency responders.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
If billionaires didn\u2019t hoard their wealth and instead distributed it to their employees, then more money would circulate in the economy. And that\u2019s<\/em> what would create jobs and build businesses.<\/p>\n\n\n\n So anyone who says they support economic solutions but they don\u2019t include as one of those solutions the prevention of the existence of billionaires, is either a liar or doesn\u2019t understand how the economy works.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
