Our schooling
Kim finished one year of the Associate of Art programme at Douglas College in New Westminster, British Columbia, in April 1998. In June 1998, they moved from their three year old home in Surrey, BC, to Lethbridge, Alberta, so Kim could continue his schooling at the University of Lethbridge in the Bachelor of Arts programme as a French major.
In September 1999, Kim withdrew from his classes so he could work full-time. After two semesters off from university, Kim has decided to return to school. This time, however, he has decided he needs a job more than an education, so he enrolled at the Lethbridge Community College in their Multimedia Production programme. Kim was able to get a practicum with the Faculty of Management at the University of Lethbridge redesigning their website. He finished his practicum in August 2001, but had managed to stay on full-time with them while they hire a full-time position.
In September 2003, armed with free tuition as a U of L employee, Kim enrolled as a full-time university student. He started as a new media major in the Bachelor’s of Fine Arts programme. In January 2004, he switched to a drama major in the Bachelor of Arts programme. Because of work commitments, Kim had to drop out after only two semesters.
In April 2006, Mary completed a diploma in nutritional counselling from the Candidan Institute of Longevity Studies, Inc.
In April 2011, Kim quit his job with H&R Transport to return to school full-time. He graduated in 2013 with a Bachelor of Arts, majoring in drama and minoring in French. Around that time, he was laid off from his next job, and started a marketing company called Hot Pepper Communications. In 2020, as a result of the pandemic, he pivoted from Hot Pepper Communications and launched what is now The Alberta Worker, and independent media outlet.
Mary enrolled in a Bachelor of Arts degree at the University of Lethbridge in January 2013. She graduated in May 2019 with a double major in women and gender studies and English, then started her master’s degree in September 2019, which she completed in 2021.
